<image:title>Home - Who I am…</image:title>
<image:caption>Hey there! I am Nyx Melody. I use they/them/their and fae/faer/faers pronouns. I am a queer and non-binary, genderqueer, trans femme New York State licensed psychotherapist, clinical supervisor, educator and consultant on anti-oppression, mental health, and LGBTQIPA2S+ issues. I have had experience working with individuals, couples, and groups who are struggling with various issues, including but not limited to: trauma/abuse, gender/sexual identity, anxiety, depression, substance use, acculturation, racial identity exploration, and dismantling internalized inferiority and/or superiority. I graduated from the Point Park University with a bachelors degree in Psychology. I completed a dual masters degree from Teachers College, Columbia University. I also teach as an adjunct professor at Teachers College, Columbia University and New York University. Pronouns: They/Them/Theirs & Fae/Faer/Faers</image:caption>

<image:title>Home - My Approach</image:title>
<image:caption>I have had the privilege of working in and amongst diverse populations, which has reframed my approach to therapy in order to ensure that it is more adaptable, accessible, and demystified. Listening, validation, curiosity, challenging, and accountability are important features of my approach to my work with my clients. Therapy for too long has been a space that perpetuates the harmful ideologies in psychology that are rooted in whiteness, capitalism, and dehumanization. Therefore, I draw upon queer, intersectional feminist, humanistic, multicultural, trauma-informed, decolonized, and anti-oppressive theories to foster an egalitarian and collaborative relationship. In therapy, I utilize tailored approaches that meet my clients needs and goals, which change and adapt throughout our work together. Through consultation, I seek to amplify the messages and teachings of Queer, TGNC, & BIPOC to create affirming practices/policies. As a supervisor, I aim to assist my supervisees and colleagues with developing culturally responsive approaches to therapy.</image:caption>

<image:title>Home - Non-binary Microaggressions in Psychotherapy</image:title>
<image:caption>I came to learn through my own consultations with prospective therapy clients that I wasn’t alone in my experiences of encountering gender based microaggressions. Although I don’t believe that all of the following microaggressions were intentionally meant to harm non-binary clients, it’s important to center the impact of our questions and statements as clinicians.</image:caption>

<image:title>Home - Avoiding Burnout</image:title>
<image:caption>Burnout is not an immediate response, but instead an ongoing process that occurs when one feels overworked, overwhelmed, and unappreciated. The signs of burnout can be physical, emotional, and/or behavioral. Physical:: feeling tired/unmotivated, frequent headaches/muscle pain, or changes in eating/sleeping habits. Emotional:: feeling numb, detached or helpless or having an ongoing sense of failure/doubt. Behavioral:: social withdrawal/isolation, lashing out at others, or increased alcohol/drug use.</image:caption>

<image:title>Home - Pride</image:title>
<image:caption>This year is the 50th anniversary of the first gay Pride march, known as the Gay Liberation Day March, which took place in NYC on June 28, 1970. For the first time in its history, the parade has been canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. However, this is not a cancellation of PRIDE itself and many events continue to occur virtually. This pause creates a time for reflection as well as a chance to “wake-up,” especially for those of us who have been pacified into complacency by our own privilege.</image:caption>

<image:title>Therapy Rates & Fees - Accessing Mental Health Care</image:title>
<image:caption>I honor the courage and bravery it takes to reach out for support, and how challenging it can be to find a therapist that provides affirming care. I provide sliding scale fees to assist clients with having access to mental health care. Sliding scale spots are prioritized for Disabled, Queer, Trans, Black, Indigenous, and/or People of Color who exist on additional intersections of oppression. Additionally, I am happy to provide referrals if and when I are not an appropriate match for you.</image:caption>

<image:title>About Me - Founder, Clinical Director, Licensed Psychotherapist & Anti-Oppression / LGBTQIPA2S+ Consultant</image:title>
<image:caption>Pronouns: They/Them/Their & Fae/Faer/Faers Authenticity and dismantling my perfectionism are extremely important to me. Additionally, I feel that people are looking for a mental health professional who keeps it real and holds them accountable to their goals. Self-disclosure is an important part of the process and I like to be honest with clients about who I am. I am a queer, non-binary, trans femme person. I am also a white American of mixed European background. I grew up in poverty, have experienced homelessness, and identify as a first generation college student. I am a member of the kink and sex positive community, a former sex worker, and believe in the tenets of relationship anarchy. I am neurodivergent and a cancer survivor. I identify as both an agnostic and a holistic spiritualist. I continue to work through my own mental health diagnoses of trauma and depression. I have extensive experience working with queer and straight identified clients, couples, and groups regarding topics such as: trauma/abuse, gender/sexual identity, anxiety, depression, substance use, acculturation, racial identity exploration, dismantling internalized inferiority and/or superiority, exploring sexuality/kinks, and considerations of consensual/ethical non-monogamy or polyamory. I also have experience providing clinical documentation in support for gender affirming care for transgender and gender expansive individuals. I have had the privilege of working in and amongst diverse populations, which has reframed my approach to therapy in order to ensure that it is more adaptable, accessible, and demystified. Therapy for too long has been a space that perpetuates the harmful ideologies in psychology that are rooted in whiteness, capitalism, and dehumanization. Therefore, I draw upon queer, intersectional feminist, humanistic, multicultural, trauma-informed, decolonized, sex/body positive, and anti-oppressive theories to foster an equitable, inclusive, and collaborative relationship. Together with my clients we collaborate to (re)claim your authentic self through a process of creativity, playfulness, compassion, somatic/imagination exercises, and critical reflection. I have lived experience with and continue to engage in my own therapeutic healing surrounding trauma, abuse, sex work, my own gender and sexual identities, and the loss of my brother. I have personally experienced the benefits of individual, couples, and group therapy both as a clinician and as a client. Engaging in my own daily practices of journaling, meditation, and gratitude reflections, I have come to cultivate a sense of clarity of and love for myself which inspires me to share with my clients as well. If you’re looking for a therapist to actively engage and hold you accountable to achieving your goals, then I urge you to reach out to me today. Email: nyx@theqlective.com</image:caption>
